A fairy is flying through the rain, wind buffeting her wings. She is seeking a place to shelter, somewhere warm, dry, and comfortable: a fairy house. Through the driving rain, her sharp eyes spot a tiny house. She struggles down and ducks inside, finding a table, bed, and carpet, all just the right size. Fairy houses aren't all that hard to make, and by doing it you can save a fairy from the weather.

From bark roofs to moss ones, there are many different ways to build a fairy house's roof. Sometimes the houses don't even have to have roofs! You can lean sticks against one another to make a tepee, or lay them side by side. You can put in rugs and tables, beds and plates. You can furnish it and build it however you want. Fairy houses are usually built from the builder's imagination, but if you are stuck thinking of ideas or don't know how to build a certain part, here are some tips.

If you are having trouble with the walls, you can always stick pieces of wood or bark into the ground so that they stick up. A tree, the roots of a tree, or rocks also are good ways to make walls. Yet another way to make walls is to dig a cave under a rock. This will provide you with walls and a roof! If you have a lot of time to make your fairy house delicate, you can push small sticks into the ground to make walls, or build a log cabin with sticks by placing sticks so that they cross over at the ends. And of course, there are many other ways to build walls using your imagination!

When making roofs, bark is a good option. It is not too heavy so it won't cave in on the house. If a rock is already suspended between two objects or on soft ground, it will make a good roof if you dig under it. You can also put leaves suspended between the two walls or have sticks suspended between two walls evenly spaced out and fill the spaces with leaves. You can also put moss between the walls.

Fairies sometimes like a soft carpet underneath their feet. You can make it using moss, pine needles, or leaves. You can also use carpet samples from a carpet store. Cotton balls also work to make a soft place for a fairy to step.
