There Is Still More Voting!

You may think that after the NH primary you are done voting until 2020 but that is not true! In our town of Hopkinton, we have a Town Meeting which happened on Saturday, March 12th at 9am at Hopkinton High School. This meeting happens once a year and anyone is welcome to attend. To vote you have to be 18 or older and registered. Some issues that you can vote for include having green trash bags, fixing roads, emergency funds, and building a new sports complex (a new track). These things and many others are getting voted on at the meeting. The way that you vote at the meeting is not like electing a president by completing a ballot; it is more simple. It is called a direct democracy and how you do it is with a direct show of hands: when the official calls "all in favor of", you either say "aye" or "nay." Also, you could have a secret ballot to help preserve privacy. This is for the big issues that involves writing your vote on a piece of paper and putting it in a box. If you want to make difference in our town, then you should go to the Town Meeting!
