This growing game has become a big hit in the board game world. With over fifty ad-ons and engaging rules, Catan has become a popular activity for all ages. Though the rules can be complicated, many people play it once or twice and they are hooked. The whole board in the standard version is a hexagon, with smaller hexagons inside of it. These smaller pieces have different materials on them. On each of these material pieces there is a number fom one to twelve, except for seven. If anyone rolls a number, and you are on the material piece that has that number, you get that material! It might sound complicating, but really it's very simple.

When you get enough material cards you can build off of your base, making roads, cities, and settlements. Some different materials include wheat, brick, wood, ore, and wool, and if you had a wool, brick, wood, and a weat, you can build a settlement. A settlement can leter be changed into a city with more materials. When it's your turn, you can trade with other players to fnd the materals you need. To win the game, you have to get ten victory points. A city is two, and settlement is one. There is also other cards you can buy to get voctory points.
So those ae just the basics. There is even more rules, but it can get ticky. Many add on sets can include different cards, a bigger board, and more players. Although the first game of Catan was released in 1997, it is just now getting big. You can visit the Catan website to learn more about this amazing game.
