Read It?

The Hunger Games is a great book that you might like. Read on to see whether or not it's right for you.

In a futuristic country called Panem, Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen-year-old girl, volunteers in place of her younger sister to go into an arena filled with dangers, much like the gladiator fights of ancient Roman history. These tributes, or unlucky participants, fight to the death against other teenagers. This mandatory fight serves as gruesome entertainment for the citizens of the capitol, and to keep their districts “protected,” which is an unequal balance. Katniss and the required male counterpart, Peeta, go together to try to win, and in the process, she and Peeta share a budding romance as they try to outlive their opponents. This book is filled with violence, gore, romance, suspense and so much more. Be forewarned, this book is very intense, and it could scare young children.

I recommend this book to most sixth-graders and advanced fifth-graders, only because it is a little hard to follow because the story is complex and the action, along with the subject, is for more mature audiences.

This is a trilogy, and along with it are four other movies, the last one having two parts. The movies are never as good as the book, but the violence and gore are more graphic.
