"Starry Starry Weekend" is a great way to have fun and find lots of great Christmas gifts for family and friends. More low key than Mightnight Madness in Concord, "Starry Starry Weekend" is open for two days and the stores are open until 8:00 p.m. Many Christmas related events go on, entertaining everybody, even little ones.
All of the store fronts are beautifully decorated for Christmas, helping everybody get into the Christmas spirit even with the current lack of snow. Free samples of food and drinks are often laid out in stores encouraging people to grab a quick snack as they enjoy the flurry of Christmas shopping. Finding presents for everybody on your list shouldn't be a problem; there is a wide variety of things to buy, from candles at Marklin Candle to scarves at Indigo Blues to toys at Polkadots to cream pitchers at 3 On Main. Sorella Flower is a great place to buy pointsettias and other Christmas flowers as a centerpeice for your table. Marlin Candle specializes in making candles, especially for churches. Indigo Blues is a great place to find women's clothing, as well as lotion and other little things. Polkadots is more for kids, they have children's clothes, but mostly have toys and other little things. 3 On Main is mostly little things, more for adults, but it's fun for kids too. Some store play music in the background to further enhance the Christmas experience.
Craft fairs happen at the train depot and St. Andrews Church. Filled to the brim with handmade itmes from local artisens, the craft fairs are open to anybody. The craft fairs also have a huge variety of thing to buy. You can buy hats, scarves, mustard, Christmas wreaths, blown glass, doll clothes, ornaments, as well as many other things. If you had trouble finding a gift for someone in the stores, go to the craft fairs and you will almost certantly find something at the craft fair.
More ways for getting in the Christmas spirit are offered for little ones. The Polar Express is read out loud in the train, also decorated with lights and greens for Christmas. You can sign up for Santa to call your house, or go to the tree lightings and carol sings in Contoocook and Hopkinton. There are so many ways to celebrate Christmas with others in both Hopkinton and Contoocook; there is something everyone will enjoy.
